Debi
Black's art is influenced by her Christian roots. Having painted all her life, she feels painting is a gift from God
she received in life. She states, “Each gift you receive is a blessing from God.
I received two, my family and my ability to paint.” She has attended numerous workshops
and classes all over the nation. She has studied art the Art Academy of Cincinnati and Purdue University
where she obtained her BS in 1979. She attained her Masters Degree from Cincinnati Christian College
in 2010 in Pastoral Ministries and is now a bivocational pastor for Mudpike Baptist Church in Indiana, along
side of teaching painting in numerous locations in southeastern Indiana.
In October 2007 she became one of the Artist of Aurora, Indiana.
They are a group of artist who created murals all over the city of Aurora to depict historical scenes of the community.
Today
she is represented in the Art on Main Gallery in Madison, Indiana which is in the heart of one of only
6 designated arts and cultural districts in the state of Indiana. She also has a gallery in Batesville,
Indiana at the RomWeber Marketplace and at the Southeastern Indiana Art Guild Gallery at the corner of 2nd
and Main streets in Aurora, Indiana. She paints at her gallery/studio in Aurora and at her studio in Milan, Indiana.
She has a religious theme to all her paintings and in each painting, except the first painting she did in 1978, she
has a feather somewhere hidden depicting God watching over us through his army of angels.
Her art has been described as depicting, “God's creation of the world
as only an artist can see.”
Debi states, “Art is the expression of
the vision our eyes strive to immortalize on canvas with paint. It is God’s creation seen through the eyes
of an artist.” Enjoy her paintings of God’s
still quiet touch portrayed in our daily lives. “ Each one should use whatever gift he has received
to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10 NIV.
